Work On

I haven't written perfectly this year. In fact, I've made a few mistakes, and some of those were not using literary present tense, being wordier than necessary, straying from the significance of the piece, organization, transitions, and using ambiguous pronouns. I mainly made mistakes on literary present tense in the Lord of the Flies Literary Analysis. For example, I said, "While Ralph was doing headstands about the lack of adults, Piggy was paying attention to where they were and what they could do from there on out." I should have made all of the verbs present tense because the things happening in literature are always happening.

I know that the areas I need to work on are important because they drastically effect the quality of my writing. Transitions are crucial to a work flowing correctly. And without good organization, the piece could sound bad despite how good the content may be. I also believe it is important for me to use pronouns correctly because someone can be completely lost in a story if the pronouns aren't clear enough. Another thing that I struggle with on occasion is "research sandwiches." I tend to end my paragraphs with information rather than analysis of that information, and I know that is frowned upon. I need to polish and keep refining my writing so that it not only becomes easier for me but also so that I can do better on essays and such next year.
